I forgot. So I thought, time to look again.

In my effort to rediscover this bright yellow, lighthearted, sense of all is good with the world (in no particular order) I’ve found joy in

stillness, ripe mangos, anything animated, markers, crayons, and large blank pieces of white paper, the smell of neroli, sadness, hearing the violin, a stroll after the rainfall, waking up, jagatjoti, dusk, a freshly made bed, just letting it go, running 4 miles, watching someone change, foot massage, jasmine green tea, candle lit baths, and reading Hafiz.

There’s more. But this isn’t about getting it all in. And I guess that’s the point ~ that  joy (I think) isn’t a perfect collection of ‘things’ or a claim to the right ‘stuff’ but a realization of simplicity, a respect for what’s here and now.

Does joy have more to do with a sense of knowingness? Knowing why you do what you do. Knowing who you do it for. Knowing there is no more, no less than this. Knowing that you always have a choice. Even in the most confined aspects of life ~ knowing there is still space. Today I think joy is the realization of union ~ A union between this (my thing) that (your thing) and the space between (the thing). And suddenly we’re not alone. No. We can see that it’s a marriage of sorts. And there is so much to celebrate. It’s almost unbearable how much joy comes from that kind of insight.

We are not separate.

What’s your list? What does joy feel like, look like, act like when she comes by your side? I’ll bet the better you get to seeing her, the easier it’ll be to see her.

PS – If you want to share your Joy List with me, I’d be honored.
