Give & Take: A Hand Massage

The hands, ears, and feet are microcosms of the body. This means that massaging these areas are massaging the macrocosm of an entire wellness system like muscles, organs, nerves, and endocrine circulatory systems.

It’s not essential to know which point corresponds to which organ or tissue for it to be healing and effective. Simply locate areas of tenderness and press, rub, and massage until you feel a change, roughly 2–3 minutes per point.

Hand Massage
The hands are the simplest way to work with the entire body. Spend a few minutes each day massaging your hands, pressing firmly into areas of tenderness. This will support all over healthy functioning of the body.

1. Finger Twist

Starting with your pinky finger, massage the base, the knuckle, and the tip in a gentle twisting motion. Do the same for the ring finger, middle finger, index finger, and thumb.

2. Palm Press
Using your opposite hand, press the base of your palm, the center, and the top. Do this just off the center to the right. Do this again off center to the left. Then firmly squeeze the flesh between the thumb and index finger and hold for 15 seconds. Breathe.

3. Wrist Lengthen
Stretch out your arm. Gently pull your fingers back toward your head. Hold for 10 seconds. Make a fist. Repeat, pulling your fingers downward to stretch the top of your wrist.
